Thank you for visiting my Ward web page. As your elected representative for the TDSB, it is my role to advocate on behalf of students, parents, residents. On the TDSB site, and on this page, you can stay informed on what’s happening at the Board, including policies under review, program updates and discussions around new initiatives to improve student success.

Greetings, Welcome back to the new school year for 2017-18!

I'd like to share some highlights from recent communications, about the work that is going on, in Ward 19 and what you can look forward to in the coming months.

Let's make this school year the best ever for our learners!
News in Ward 19
  • The new David & Mary Thompson / Bendale BTI construction is well underway, with an opening planned for September 2019, realizing the many years of hard work and expertise of TDSB, City Staff, Community Members and Students.
  • In addition, there have been many construction projects to improve existing sites, many of which will feature innovations such as our solar energy initiatives. By reducing our total energy costs across the TDSB, we can redirect those savings to deliver more enrichment programs for our community.
Celebrating our diversity
  • Trustee David Smith welcomes all of our new Canadians to our Ward 19 family of schools.
  • Programs such as ESL, International Language studies and job readiness are just some of the initiatives underway. No one gets left behind.
Importance of parental involvement
  • Trustee David Smith encourages all parents and guardians to be more involved in their children's education. By reinforcing at home, the progress the TDSB makes with your child, this deepens the child's education commitment. Join your school's Parent Council. They need you! In so doing, this gives you the best opportunity to contribute to decisions for a more effective school.
Working with community leaders
  • Trustee David Smith works on solving problems by understanding local needs. Often this results in refreshing initiatives such as breakfast programs, recreation, and after school programs
  • Close relationships with multiple levels of government, allows me to make these programs a reality
  • Safety First. Safety Last. Safety Every Time.
  • This year brought changes to our transportation and carrier systems to ensure safe and reliable transport of our students.
  • Walkways, boarding on and off buses, drop offs, recreation in school grounds, proper supervision of activities are all items of great importance.
  • By working together it's the only way safety can be guaranteed.
Caring for the environment
  • This starts with good habits and best practices!
  • Waste management, conservation, energy saving, and protecting our green space — think of ways you can make your mark. Let's start up a walking school
