Our Students

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is the largest and one of the most diverse school boards in Canada. We serve approximately 238,000 students in nearly 600 schools throughout Toronto, and more than 100,000 life-long learners in our Adult and Continuing Education programs.

 

 

Our Staff

TDSB staff members are the backbone of the system. A talented community of educators and support staff are dedicated to enriching the lives of all students and helping them achieve success. The TDSB employs approximately 42,000 individuals who build a positive learning environment by supporting our Strategic Directions and Mission Statement. Our standards are high because our students are our number one priority. 

Leadership

The TDSB’s Director of Education - Colleen Russell-Rawlins is supported by the Senior Team who is responsible for: 

  • Serving our students and communities
  • Improving academic performance
  • Managing business services
  • Providing staff support
  • Operating and maintaining our buildings

Our Board of Trustees

The TDSB Chair of the Board works with the other publicly elected Trustees. Trustees represent the families in their wards and ensure that all concerns of their communities are brought to the attention of the Board.

  • 26,000 students are enrolled in immersion and extended French programs
  • 26% were born outside of Canada
  • There are over 100 languages spoken by TDSB students and their families.

Our Staff   

  • 16,030 permanent teachers (10,930 Elementary, 5,100 Secondary)
  • 5,260 occasional teachers (3,590 Elementary, 1,670 Secondary)
  • 15,500 permanent support staff and 4600 supply/casual employees (including Designated Early Childhood Educators, professional support workers, caretakers, maintenance staff, IT support, administrators, etc.)
