Background
In March of 2018 the Ministry of Education (EDU) provided capital funding approval to construct a new 8-classroom addition to serve 487 pupil places at Hollywood Public School. The funding was to address the accommodation pressures in the Younge-Sheppard corridor which is designated as an “urban centre” in the City of Toronto’s official plan where high-density intensification is encouraged. The project was required to support attendance boundary changes between McKee PS, Avondale PS and Hollywood PS, that was required manage the projected growth in the area.
Through the design process it was found that existing rooms within the school could be utilized as classrooms and the addition/renovation scope was reduced to include 6 classrooms while increasing the final student capacity to 493. This was approved by the EDU in July of 2022.
Since the EDU approval of the business case TDSB has completed the “Site Plan Approval Process” (SPA), detailed design of the project, received “Approval to Proceed to Tender” (ATP) from the Ministry of Education, obtained building permits from the City of Toronto and tendered the construction to pre-qualified General Contractors.
