Facility Services

Facility Services provides safe, clean, healthy and environmentally sustainable learning and work environments for students, staff, and the community. Each day we welcome approximately 238,000 students and 42,000 staff at nearly 600 schools and 47 million square feet of facility space.  To support this large and complex organization, Facility Services is organized into five areas: Administration, Construction, Design, Facility Operations and Sustainability.

Accessibility

To meet our commitment to human rights, equity, and inclusion, and to honour the Canadian Human Rights Act, the TDSB is obligated to improve accessibility for people with disabilities.

Information on accessibility and the TDSB built environment, which includes interior and exterior features of schools, is outlined in the report called “Making School Buildings and Sites More Accessible”.

Accessibility profiles of individual schools are also available on the lefthand sidebar of school homepages, available at https://www.tdsb.on.ca/Find-your/School.

Administration

The administrative team is the key liaison between senior management, trustees, the Ministry, external agencies, parents, city councillors, community groups, outside agencies and other stakeholders on all facilities issues. They respond to all facility inquiries and issues to ensure appropriate action is taken.

Construction

The construction division is responsible for all work on TDSB properties that involves constructing, altering, decorating, repairing or demolishing buildings, structures, roads, sewers, water/gas mains or other works. The team performs all maintenance work to sustain, maintain or preserve existing buildings or building components, structures, equipment, machinery and tools.

Construction and maintenance work at the TDSB is performed by skilled trades that are represented by the Maintenance and Construction Skilled Trades Council (MTSTC).

Design

The design division is responsible for energy retrofits projects and the design of new schools, additions, renovations, site improvements and the replacement of roofs, windows, heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment and electrical equipment, including public address and fire alarm systems. This team directs and oversees the work of consulting design professionals and produces a wide range of technical documents, including construction drawings and specifications.

Facility Operations

The facility operations division delivers daily services to all TDSB facilities in compliance with applicable legislation, regulations and relevant codes.

Sustainability

The sustainability division works to implement the TDSB’s Environment Policy, including the EcoSchools program and providing support to the Board’s Environmental Advisory Committee.
