The TDSB’s environmental initiatives have broad impacts for school communities. These impacts can be grouped into 8 main categories:

• Planting large trees to provide shade and cooling on school grounds
• Installing solar panels on school roofs

• Promoting ‘Lights Off’ awareness through EcoSchools
• Replacing outdated building controls with energy efficient, automated systems

 

Examples:

• Supporting students and staff who bike to school with bike racks
• Encouraging waste-free lunches through EcoSchools
• Supporting environmental action through educational webinars

• Educators taking learning outdoors
• Students participating in walk and bike to school campaigns through ASST
• Growing food on urban farms and gardens on school grounds

• Adding diverse tree species to school grounds
