Attending an Out-of-Area School by Way of Child Care
Children attending preschool programs in a TDSB school other than the one designated by address can continue attending for Junior Kindergarten, as long as they participate in the Before- and After-School Program (BASP) until the end of Grade 3. Students from Out-of-Area who no longer participate in the BASP are expected to move to their designated school by address to begin the next school year. To remain at the current school, the student must apply through Out-of-Area Admissions.
Should the school have space, the student may be permitted to remain until the end of the grade range of the school. In this situation, students are given priority status, second only to applicants with siblings already attending and returning to the school. Students will not be able to continue to attend a school that is Closed to Out-of-Area Admissions. This was outlined and shared with families at the start of Junior Kindergarten through PR545C: Out-of-Area and Withdrawal from Child Care or formerly the Optional Attendance and Withdrawal from Child Care forms. A listing of the Out-of-Area Admissions status for all schools can be found on the Out-of-Area Admissions website.
*Note: This does not apply to students attending a school through Out-of-Area Admissions (former Optional Attendance), a Special Education Intensive Support Program or Early French Immersion.
Students attending a school through Out-of-Area Admissions or through Child-Care access will not have right of access to the next school upon graduation. Students who wish to attend the next school into which the school feeds will be required to apply for Out-of-Area Admission to that school.
