Why do we need Student Nutrition Programs?
Student Nutrition Programs offer healthy food options to students so they are ready to focus and learn at school. They promote healthier eating habits improving physical and mental health and wellness. Research has shown that Student Nutrition Programs improve attendance and academic success including better scores in math, reading and science.
Every day 211,000 Toronto children and youth participate in student nutrition programs. Healthy food is available to all students, regardless of their socio economic status, with no stigma attached to participating. Sharing meals together in school contributes to developing a sense of community and belonging to a caring and nurturing environment.
