The purpose of the Focus on Youth program is to hire, serve and support students who experience challenges such as socio-economic disadvantages and systemic racism. For the summer of 2025, the TDSB is focusing on providing meaningful employment and training opportunities to students. The program will run from July 2 - August 8, 2025.
Please note - Agencies employing students in the summer will be required to sign an agency agreement with FOYT.
2025 FOYT Student Employee Placement Criteria
- Agencies must provide a supportive work environment with on-site supervision.
- Students cannot be given managerial responsibilities for summer programs.
- Students are not to be included in the ratio of staff to participant required for program delivery.
- Student employees are not permitted to participate in activities that occur in or on water at a swimming pool, waterpark or open water (e.g. lake or river). Student employees are permitted to participate at splash pads and wading pools.
- Students require at least 6 weeks of employment.
- Students require minimum 35 hours each week of meaningful employment.
- Students are hired and paid by the TDSB.
- Agency supervisors are required to submit weekly timesheets.
- Agency supervisors are required to maintain and submit program statistics for FOYT (Template to be provided)
- Agency supervisors are required to update FOYT staff on student progress.
- Agency supervisors are required to provide FOYT staff with a 6 week program schedule indicating dates and locations of excursions.
- Agency supervisors are required to attend a FOYT orientation session.
